Korean Historical Imagery


The defeat of a Chinese invasion of Korea in 662.


In 918 Shilla was destroyed and replaced by the Koryo dynasty, founded by Wang Kon, who was also known as T'aejo or Great Progenitor. The Korean culture during the Koryo dynasty was heavily influenced by Chinese refined lifesyles, government, and religious practices. Tho Korea took on China's more urban cultural advancements, the art during the Koryo Dynasty was priceless. The Koryo dynasty lasted until 1392 despite the many invasions from China and Manchuria. The Korean people resisted the Tang dynasty to avail as finally the Koryo royal court fled to Kanghwa Island at the mouth of the Han River in order to escape the constant onslaught of invasion leaving the country at the hands of the Mongols.
